Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

Built Arducopter 3DR in November 2011. Built Bixler plane and have been have fun flying it. Looking forward to making it autonomous. Also looking forward to aerial photography with Ardupilot.

Pat commented on Duran - ALTI's blog post WHAT A PHANTOM SHOULD LOOK LIKE INSIDE...
"I'm wondering what exactly "flies much better with APM" means. Is it more stable? Is it sportier?
The reason I'm asking is that I have a 3DR Arducopter with the APM1 (purchased 11/2011) and it flies horribly. I have played with different recommended…"

Pat replied to Glenn M's discussion Another arducopter flips on takeoff thread.
"Glenn,
The 3DR assembly instructions are incorrect. I posted about this about a month ago and there has been another recent thread about this, but there has been no acknowledgment by the folks at 3D Robotics that this is an issue. I understand that…"

Pat replied to Austin Duff's discussion Error Uploading to ArduStation
"I'm having the same issue not being able to upload code to the Ardustation. The error message is:
Binary sketch size: 22752 bytes (of a 32256 byte maximum)avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error,…"

I have calibrated my 4 ESCs from my 3DR kit on several occassions, mostly via the manual method, but they seem to intermitently indicate that they need recalibration.I turn on the copter and sometimes, all 4 ESCs initialize nominally, but other…

I mounted my GoPro Hero2 to the top of my 3DR frame using the standard mount and the resulting video was unusable- complete jello. So then I used tripod adapter with the camera and a 1/4-20 bolt to the top and still had unusable jello in the…

Pat replied to Pat's discussion New code installation procedure
"So I just installed 2.0.55 via Arduino and I'm still wondering how the configuration relates to a fresh code install?
I.e., if I install a new version of software either via Arduino or APM Planner, what do I need to do to get things back to where…"

Pat replied to Ruwan's discussion Frame Assembly : Possible Error in the documentation of 3DRobotics?
"Japi,
I had the same problems with the documentation and posted my findings in this post:

I was really surprised that no one commented on them. I was hoping that some folks from…"

I'm a newbie and have been flying my 3DR quad for a few weeks now. I saw the impressive post about Arducopter 2.0.55 and decided to try it out tonight, so I fired up the APM Planner selected 2.0.55 and installed it. But afterwards all of the…

Why is there a female header included in the kit? As far as I can tell, it isn't used for anything, but meanwhile the telemetry kit instructions immediately call out for soldering a 4 pin breakaway header to the APM…

Pat commented on Tom Yochum's blog post IMU alignment code progress
"The good news is that the equations of motion and environmental data are really good candidates for S-functions, since one they are tested, you can treat them as block boxes that don't require all the flexibility you get with Simulink blocks. Good…"

Pat commented on Tom Yochum's blog post IMU alignment code progress
"Tom,
If you already wrote the Kalman filter in Matlab, you could implement it in Simulink in an S-function block. You should be able to do the whole thing with very few blocks if you do most of the work in the S-function. You could also write it in…"

Pat commented on Jeremy's blog post UAV Project Update - February
"Cool. You should get really nice readings from the rangefinder whether you use the analog, PWM, or serial output. I just finished using an EZ0 on a robot and it worked remarkably well. You might want to double check the range of the EZ1 vs. the EZ0,…"
