About Me:

Total newbie to any RC flight.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

Running a APM2 from 3DR since July 2012, with very few problems. My main interest is FPV flight with a quadcopter. As my first RC flight was in April 2012, I wanted the safety of RTL and the APM2 gives that and much more.

Robert Palmer commented on Krzysztof Bosak's blog post Comments, debunking and alternative proposal for Amazon's revision for airspace model.
"I'm assuming the first comment, suggesting a phishing attempt was a joke and a misunderstanding of what phishing is...  I was able to view the linked PDF without logging in at all so no username/password to steal.

I did skim through the document…"

Robert Palmer commented on Chris Anderson's blog post New 3DR autopilot: Pixhawk Mini
"Hang on... 3DR abandoned the DIY market and now they want us back?  No thanks.  I'm not going to risk another policy changed where we get dumped again..."

Robert Palmer commented on Julian's blog post 3DR's Rise and Fall
"When I started out in RC with multirotors, I bought a lot of gear from 3DR, including frames and flight controllers.  When 3DR abandoned the DIY hobbyist for the ready to fly garbage, they lost my support. All that really meant to me is that I saved…"

Robert Palmer commented on Bill Bonney's blog post APM Planner 2.0.23-rc4 Beta Released
"I am looking forward to the Linux build.  That last version I tried to install was apm_planner_2.0.20_ubuntu_trusty64.deb and that failed over dependencies.  The older 2.0.18 still works.  I did see that this was a known issue caused by moving to a…"

Robert Palmer commented on Alice Clayton's blog post What is Missile Mode Flight?
"All those crazy people claiming that a multirotor would be used to take out a manned aircraft finally have some credibility.  A quad that might be fast enough to successfully target them and in a missile form factor...
I have seen a lot of crazy…"

Robert Palmer commented on Jose Alberto Soler's blog post Airstring is live on Kickstarter
"GPRS is a bit old to get my interest but I did take a look at the Kickstarter page...  Wow, that price seems crazy for what is being offered.  Ten years ago, we were using GPRS modems for chemical plant monitoring and paying a premium for…"

Robert Palmer commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Pixhawk-compatible telemetry on your RC transmitter display
"Or, those with a Taranis that just want telemetry data, could just add $5 worth of Arduino and open source code to translate Mavlink telemetry to FrSky data.  While this would not all of the same capabilities, it is a very simple DIY exercise that…"

Robert Palmer commented on Emlid's blog post New Raspberry Pi 3 with 64-bit cores and built-in Wi-Fi and BLE
"The impression I have it that you seem to have forgotten that this is a public forum and acting in a less than professional manner here, while representing your company, does not look good to potential customers.

Trolling a competitors thread is…"

Robert Palmer commented on Emlid's blog post New Raspberry Pi 3 with 64-bit cores and built-in Wi-Fi and BLE
"I was burned by the built in GPS on the APM2 (A nice idea that was poorly implemented with a junk GPS that had to be disabled and replaced.) so will take some convincing to accept another device with a built in GPS.  Even when the Navio2 has a good…"

Robert Palmer commented on Emlid's blog post New Raspberry Pi 3 with 64-bit cores and built-in Wi-Fi and BLE
"The PXFmini and Navio2 are both interesting options for those of us that have applications where the extra processing capacity of a Raspberry Pi will be useful.  I just had a look at the purchase price of each of these boards is it appears a look…"

Robert Palmer commented on FlightBots.com's blog post 33 Percent of Online Shoppers Would Welcome Drone Deliveries
"I want to see what happens in the US, with jurisdictions that have bans on drones and places issuing hunting permits for drones.  Does delivery insurance cover your package when the drone is shot down?  Will Amazon arm their delivery drones so they…"

Robert Palmer replied to Dale March's discussion Mission Planner 1.3.21 and Arducopter V3.2.1 Ch6 tuning and ch 7/8 option issue.
"I had one issue with 1.3.25 that you might want to watch out for.  MP installed newer drivers and they did not work with my 3DR radio (not a clone, one bought from 3DR) on win 7.  Normally, I am careful about what drivers are installed so I still…"

Robert Palmer replied to Dale March's discussion Mission Planner 1.3.21 and Arducopter V3.2.1 Ch6 tuning and ch 7/8 option issue.
"I came across this today when rebuilding one of my older quads.  This is one of those unexpected changes in MP that stopped me accepting upgrades long ago but I stupidly allowed a MP upgrade yesterday.  We can't really blame the developer for the…"

Robert Palmer commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Newspaper: "We must ban drones outright before it's too late"
"In the US: Backpacks have been used to hide bombs in crowds of innocent people so we need to ban them. Trucks have been used to deliver bombs so they need to be banned.  Thousands are killed every year, including children, by guns so they should be…"

Robert Palmer commented on Jake Wells's blog post Is it a hobby or not?
"Interesting rant.  After reading it, I'm still not really sure what you were trying to achieve.
I fly quadcopters or just quads and sometimes a tricopter.  A plane once, until it became painfully boring...  The flight controllers in use are APM2,…"

Robert Palmer commented on microuav's blog post Parrot Bebop paparazzi integration
"The promo shot associates it with a crowed beach and city...  Exactly where they should not be flying.  All we need is more inspiration for idiots to fly around people and bring more bad publicity to the hobby... "
