About Me:
I am an engineer and conservation technologist in National Geographic's Explorer program. My work involves efforts to help to bring modernization and new technologies into the space of ocean protection, namely to help stop IUU fishing and overfishing. The work started at Stanford University and I have gone on to work with a number of nonprofits and organizations since then. Most the stuff I focus on involved the development of hardware (low cost conservation UAVs, ULTRA low cost VMS, acoustic sensors, etc) and data management solutions (smartphone apps, online databases, etc.), as well as the identification of innovative approaches and technologies that work within the constraints of a certain community.
Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest
I am currently working under a grant by National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions to develop low cost UAV research for marine protected area conservation. This has been validated through work by Conservation Drones and other pilot projects, however my grant focuses on the use by poor coastal communities for overfishing mitigation.
