I built a copter for a friend, who was out flying a mapping mission in auto. Just prior to the last waypoint the chute deployed. After reviewing the logs I cannot determine why the chute deployed. It looks as thought the copter is flying just fine…

Doug Andriuk replied to Jed Clement's discussion Topographic Survey
"Hi Jed,  Did you get the Altus?  We have been doing surveying with a drone for about a year now.  We use a DJI s900/pixhawk/a variety of cameras and lenses.  We have slowly gotten the accuracy down to .08' or less in the Z, and about the same in the…"

I've been doing a lot of mapping using mission planner to set up the lawnmower pattern over the subject area.  Things are going well, but most of these jobs need every bit of efficiency.  To that end, is it possible to perform a banked turn at speed…

Doug Andriuk replied to Doug Andriuk's discussion Optimal Settings for Autonomous Mapping
"It is in the autowaypoint > survey (grid)  dialog box.  "Flying Speed"  You can set it for what ever speed you like.  "

"Rob,
Thanks for all of your help over the years, directly and indirectly by providing very insightful feed back on the plethora of forums you contribute to.
I know several Canadian firms that are flourishing in the "drones as a service" business.…"

I've been having pretty good success with mapping using the pixhawk and mission planner.  After figuring out how to get the shutter cycle time under a second (thanks mono), I'm now pursuing how to speed the entire process up.  I've noticed that the…

Had an interesting event happen the other day.  While flying in auto on a mapping mission, the copter (an s900, pixhawk, AC3.2.1) did some unanticipated roll movements during a turn at a way point.  It proceeded straight along the flight plan as…

Doug Andriuk replied to Gerard Juarez's discussion Suggestions for Cameras on Custom Drone Rig Build
"We use a sony a5000 and a6000 with a 20mm or 16mm lens.  The mono trigger works exceptionally well. If you are doing NVDI then you might consider something different."

Doug Andriuk commented on Crispin's blog post FLIR Tau2 640 + GoPro and 3D printed case
"Have you guys seen the new FLIR camera?  It is half the price of the Tau and has shutter controls, etc.  I saw it at the AUVSI show.  640 is @2999, and 320 @ $1499."

"Very Cool.  I there any way to use the Tau as a "picture" camera rather than a video camera?  I want to do orthomaps with thermal images."

"Funny, I found your post by searching "minimosd gibberish," which is the problem I have now as well.  Not sure what changed since my last flight.  Any ideas fellas?"

Doug Andriuk replied to Sean Spencer's discussion PIxhawk Random Flip
"I have been living with the occasional flip on my TL8X octo.  Google my videos.  It has happened three times.  I finally built a test stand out of a garbage can and tested the daylights out of it, letting it hover a couple inches above the can, but…"

Using the link status in mission planner reveals that my connection is very poor.  RSSI is around 200 with very little noise.  The radios appear to connect fine and data does flow between the pixhawk and GCS, but the link stats shows that 4/5…

How are you controlling the camera?  Were you able to wire a trigger?"

Doug Andriuk replied to Greg Nuspel's discussion Will the QX1 be a good addition
"The guys at DroneDeploy love this camera as their system is able to control the camera over WiFi real-time (it also feeds the images back to your phone via the 4G LTE network).  For mapping, you can get away without a gimbal and just fix it to your…"
