Folks,I could really use some help.I want to build a version of 2.9.1b that has the external mag enabled, so I need to build the code on my Mac.  I've been pounding my head against the wall for quite…Continue

APM2.5 magnetometer issues on DJI FW550

Started this discussion. Last reply by Dennis Lott Jun 25, 2013. 17 Replies

Folks,I narrowly avoided a flyaway with my newly finished Flame Wheel 550 with an APM2.5.  From what I've determined so far, the issue seems to be related to mounting the APM between the top and…Continue

What causes an APM 2.5 to save the home location?  Power up when GPS locks, or arming?I'd really like it to remember the home location when I arm it...Thanks for the information.Continue

Optimum ArduCopter motor shaft to motor shaft distance?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Bill Sanford Mar 1, 2011. 3 Replies

First, what is the span or distance from motor shaft to motor shaft on the shipping ArduCopter? Second, is it better for stability to reduce the span, or increase the span. I understand that yaw…Continue

"Hi Bill, all, Hope you are yet following this thread, I have rather similar issue, receiving same set of errors, and HAL setting did not fix it, yet I get errors starting from the following type of errors; In file included from…"

Bill Sanford replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter-3.0.1 released!
"Agreed.  Every issue I've has has been my own doing.  There is a steep learning curve and knowledge is required to set these up properly.  The flight controller and software is very stable and works well.  IMHO, I think that…"

Bill Sanford replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter-3.0.1 released!
"Hi Rick, Great points.  I need to run some more tests to be 100% sure, but I'd bet money this is what is happening.  When I had the issue, there was a pretty strong headwind and I had a long upwind leg in the mission plan. When…"

"Hi Richard,This is off topic for this thread, but I'll post it here as it may help others.  If we want to continue this discussion, it should likely be PMs or a different thread. First, I'm using the RC Timer controller board. …"

Bill Sanford replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter-3.0.1 released!
"Yes, I already slowed it down a bit in auto mode.  This certainly helps.  The fact that speed takes priority over altitude in the flight control software seems backwards.  That said, the 3.0.1 software is AMAZING and works very…"

"I would think maintaining altitude would take priority over maintaining ground speed. It seems logical to assume this..."

Bill Sanford replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter-3.0.1 released!
"The reason I want to set this is because when flying in auto mode, if it's windy, when flying into a headwind, the copter will lose altitude and crash because it tips so far into the wind that it doesn't have enough lift to maintain…"

Bill Sanford replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter-3.0.1 released!
"How can I set the maximum angle the copter will tip when it's flying in auto mode? Is there a parameter for this?"

Bill Sanford replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter-3.0.1 released!
"Quick question regarding max pitch and roll angles: How can I constrain the max pitch and roll angles when flying in auto, stable, and loiter modes? I had an issue when flying an auto mission where the headwind was strong enough that the copter…"

"Got it.  Thanks Jim. I was certainly aware that GPS lock was needed for simple and super simple modes, but I couldn't see how switching to those modes would unlock the GPS.  I guess if there was a bug, it could cause issues with the…"

"I'm confused by your post Jim.  Why the rubber grommets on the GPS?  I'm fairly certan that the GPS is not affected by vibration unless it's bad enough to physically damage it, which is more than we'd ever see on these…"

"On #2, I can tell you that Z axis vibrations cause the copter to jump up and down quite a bit in Loiter mode.  It is certainly not unflyable, but rock solid stability won't be there with excessive vibrations. "
