"The APM and associated firmwares are based on the Arduino so you can use the Arduino IDE to edit the source code and upload the compiled firmware to the APM. Here's the Arduino IDE download. http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software Source code for…"

"Dear Luke, you seem to have much experience with this (which I lack). Is it easy to delve in the source code and just program that logging should start (and directly stop) once the camera is triggered? How would you give this trigger? Best…"

Luke Olson replied to Geert Verhoeven's discussion Camera + APM2
"The bad news is those features do not exist which kind of makes sense because you're using the APM for something it wasn't designed for. I think it would unlikely for the APM to use NMEA 0183 in the future because it already uses MAVLink…"

Camera + APM2

Hi all,I recently purchased an ArduPilot Mega 2.0 Fully Assembled System with MediaTek MT3329 GPS. The idea is to couple this board to a camera in a manned plane and get the positioning as well as orientation values for each photograph. However, I have two issues with the logging:* first of all, the log files are not the standard NMEA0183 strings. Is this planned for the future or does any tool exist to do so (synchronising GPS+IMU data in the file’s Exif header often only works decently with…See More

WAAS, NMEA and logging

Hello all,I recently purchased an ArduPilot Mega 2.0 Fully Assembled System with MediaTek MT3329 GPS. The idea is to couple this board to a camera in a manned plane and get the positioning as well as orientation values for each photograph. However, the MediaTek GPS does not deliver WAAS/EGNOS corrections. Is there any way (e.g. firmware update) to do this?Besides, the log files are not the standard NMEA0183 strings. Is this planned for the future or does any tool exist to do so (synchronising…See More

Profile Information

About Me:
I received my Masters degree in Archaeology from Ghent University (UGent, Belgium) in 2002. Since then, I have been working at the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History of Europe, where I started my PhD research on archaeological aerial photography in September 2004. For my PhD research on new technologies, methodologies, and data processing procedures for the benefit of aerial archaeological data acquisition and analysis, I obtained the Ph.D. degree in May 2009.
From 2010 onwards, I started as a part-time lecturer on archaeological methodology. My main activity is, however, as one of the senior researchers in the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Archaeological Prospection & Virtual Archaeology (LBI ArchPro, Vienna), where I take care of the acquisition and analysis of archaeologically relevant hyperspectral datasets. Besides, 3D data extraction and automated orthophoto production are important topics as well.
Tell us a bit about your UAV interest
Both for personal and research aims, I use a variety of UAVs and non-motorised platforms such as balloons. The main aim is to take both oblique and vertical still and video imagery for automated 3D extraction and orthophoto production.
