Arducopter took snow dive

Started this discussion. Last reply by Sebastian Gralla Mar 8, 2011. 5 Replies

I pulled out the Arducopter for renewed trainings yesterday. Lots of snow here and below freezing temp.  Still too unskilled and with some wind I lost orientation of direction and steered the wrong…Continue

New site "glow" menu entries gives me the creeps

Can some one re-assess the choice of adding those"glow" effect menu entries on the site. Things look quite bleak now in navigating DIY DRONESand is not a good improvement in my opinion. I begin to…Continue

PWM frequency for driving ESCs ?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Sebastian Gralla Dec 22, 2010. 3 Replies

I read this post in a another forum where a guy claims 50Hz is insufficient PWM cycle for accomplishing quadcopter stability. Is there a truth in this ?  What is the cycle of the ArduPilot PWM…Continue

HK GCS looks cool for Arducopter w/ Google Earth

I saw this thread where "HappyKillmore" has added support for an "APM binary stream". So this might mean additional fun stuff for Arducopter pilots in the future:  …Continue

"And tolerance in prop height is not a problem because the largest contributor to any prop's height relative to the others is the build tolerance of the frame and flex in the frame tubes due to flight loads and differential thrust. The adapter…"

"Hi All,   Thanks to everyone for input on the prop washers for the APC 11x4.7 props. I bought a 6.3mm drill bit from McMaster Carr and that seems to have done the trick. Now on to the next issue. I was just mounting the props to see what it all…"

"I just had a look at my setup.  For reference, I have the small 850kV motors.  The shafts are 4.58mm.  The APC props that it came with have adaptors at 4.72mm.  So .14mm gap.  Not too bad. However, I broke one, and had to…"

"Jack. The issue with APM props is only with the 11" props on the 880 motors. The 10" props on the 850 motors, which is what most people choose, are fine. "

"It looks like the current kit gives options for two APC (grey) prop sets depending on the motor selection. Does this same issue occur with the smaller motor/prop combo? I guess I will try drilling, although I am a bit concerned about precision as I…"

"yes, it is the APC props for me here too. I ended up using drills in steps on the rings once they were mounted: 6.1mm, 6.2mm and 6.3mm one after another to keep it centered as good as possible."

"Hmm. The props I got were black and they fit perfectly. It looks like you got APC props, which are better (less flexible) but it does look like APC doesn't include a wide-enough range of rings. I'd suggest you do what Robert did and put in…"

Tell us a bit about your UAV interest
I remember watching the older guys fly RC models in summers back in the 70´s and I always wanted to get into it. My only experience back then was within 5 seconds of first flight crashing my control line stunt model that had an all too powerful O.S glow engine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Control_line Here we are 35 years later.

I recently picked up realising this teenage dream to master RC flight control. I got some Phoenix simulator mileage now. I´ve quickly ended up with six RC planes in different states of assembly and associated field gear, without even having flown any of them yet. I own an AR.Drone with 30 seconds flight time so far, I will explore mobile phone interaction with UAV´s as time comes :) UAV is cool because it givers a great hands-on insight into accomplishing stabilising features not present in traditional wing based RC models.
