"APM does not use thermopiles. It gets attitude data from its IMU. Everything you need is listed on its home page: http://www.diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/ardupilot-mega-home-page"

FLI PROJECT

Firstly, Hello all! I have been browsing DIYDrone forums for a while now (longer than i've had a profile!) And learned a few things. But as i have no direct buddies around me who are interested in the topic of RC planes and UAVs I have only learned what i know from people on here. (Thank you to those people!) I have dabbled in electronics and computers since i was 7 pretty much, so i know the basics there... As for RC planes. I have built and owned one. And Crashed one. Since then no RC planes…See More

"How good is CHDK? is the live view 'live' enough? I know some P&S cams have a considerable delay that would make piloting tricky to say the least."

"Your options are many.... We use a point and shoot Canon and run CHDK to operate the camera, a 900 mhz transmitter with tuned antennas gives us 3-5 mile range."

High Quality Camera - What to go for over long distances?

Hey all, Just posting for some help. Now i'm in the design phase of my UAS and i'm looking into what sort of payload im goin to be carrying.   As for Cameras - I know there are a few on the internet designed specifically for what i require but as usual they cost $$$$$. So before i go chuck $xxxxx at one of those i'm wondering what sort of setups any of you have. My ground station will be situated a maximum of 3 kilometers away - thats all out maximum. Terrain is rather flat in the area with…See More

"Thick Foam = Expanding foam?   Its dense to provide strength and is also relatively absorbent - Light weight also which gives you more Payload max weight.    "

Tell us a bit about your UAV interest
Had an interest in Aviation for a long time. I was interested orginally in military applications of UAVs and then read an article on Commercial applications.

Since then i've been trying to find a way into the UAS industry.

Hoping to build a UAS over they coming year, and create a group to continue developing it.
