I have bought a Pentax Optio A30 to use as my aerial camera. It is similar to a number of the latest generation of sub-compact 10Mpixel cameras and has good reviews, especially in terms of its image quality. It weighs about 160gm with battery and SD memory card and at 58mm, has one of the smallest widths I have found – important for fitting

Another method for flight stabilization is to use a couple of ionizing ration sources to get rid of static electricity, and then measure the electric potential between the wing tips and nose and tail. Free space air, has a voltage gradient of about 120V/meter.

In the early 1970's people made model remote control airplanes using this sensing technique in a feedback loop to stabilize the flight of planes that were basically unstable and not possible to fly by hand. This would allow very cheap, highly controllable UAV's. (GPRS modem, camera + GPS)
