Hello, I came across some weird numbers and am trying to figure out what's going on.Bixler 3, with a vanilla latest Arduplane (V3.3.0, no airframe specific tuning params) flying mostly RTL and Guided…Continue

"Very impressive. I take it this is structure from motion? What hardware does the heavy lifting? How would it perform outdoors at indefinite range?"

"OK, downloaded the AppImage and chmoded it to executable.  First run, it gave me an error about some missing library (I think libespeak1 and from my limited understanding of AppImages, this is the kind of thing that shouldn't be…"

Andreas Gazis replied to Dronez's discussion 6-7 Hour Flight time over ocean - some questions
"Back in 2011 I did a lot of beach flights using a gooo ol' Skywalker and APM (and the APM software was tremendously more primitive back then). I flew in wind that made landings almost stationary, flew it overloaded, unbalanced, you name…"

Andreas Gazis replied to Kaan Ozgen's discussion Drone with 1 hour flight time
"Kaan, this discussion shouldn't even be taking place. Do you have 1 hour flight time? First step is video (one hour long, with stuff happening in the background that make it hard to spoof) or it didn't happen. Then the questions can…"

Andreas Gazis replied to Kaan Ozgen's discussion Drone with 1 hour flight time
"*sigh* It's a losing semantic battle I guess, but there's a bunch of fixed wing foamies which, equipped with an autopilot and beefy off the shelf batteries, become drones capable of 1 hour+ flights, with heavier payloads and significantly…"

Andreas Gazis commented on Julian's blog post 3DR's Rise and Fall
"@Jesus A. Sure, there is some anti 3DR sentiment going around at the moment but that's part of the game. 3DR made a decision. It was totally their prerogative and part of the risk they were taking. One result of that decision was alienating a…"

Andreas Gazis replied to Chad Frazer's discussion $100 Gift Card to whoever solves this: Airspeed Creep - Airspeed artificially increasing - Fixed Wing
"Thank you for clarifying this. I have been noticing that, when flying, the AS values are broadly believable. On the other hand, the non zero values I see on the ground are generally small so I 'd been wondering if the vehicle simply flies with…"

Andreas Gazis replied to Chad Frazer's discussion $100 Gift Card to whoever solves this: Airspeed Creep - Airspeed artificially increasing - Fixed Wing
"No solution but perhaps vaguely similar. Analog 3DR sensor, cable length 135mm. Multiple reboots, calibrations etc. Airspeed refuses to be zero when it is blatantly zero (indoor and sensor covered), see attached pics (units set to mph)."

Andreas Gazis replied to Jean-Jacques's discussion Tuning parameters for thermals
"My skywalker and bixler consume about 4 amps @ 3S so, let's say roughly 50W to hold altitude. How much does your motor draw? The cells should produce enough to keep it up when the sun is high. What about battery voltage? Was it generally close…"
