Luke Wijnberg commented on Emlid's blog post A new look on survey and mapping with Reach RS
"Well done boys!"

Luke Wijnberg posted a blog post
3DroneMapping has been testing a PPK system for the past year to integrate into our daily workflow. The point of PPK (or Post Processing Kinematic) is not just to improve internal photogrammetric model orientations, but also is general recognised as…

Luke Wijnberg replied to Warren Purnell's discussion Red Boxes - Mission Planner
"Im not sure but when doing an Auto mission and given the CAM_TRIGG_DIST parameter, these red boxes are supposed to show the footprint of the image taken."

Luke Wijnberg commented on Rory San Miguel's blog post AeroPoints: new smart ground control points for easy survey grade drone data
"Great idea and a fun thing to integrate into your workflow, but sadly will not work here in Africa. We loose on average 2 targets per sortie and those are just paper printed ones. Imagine how irresistible these fancy ones with solar panels will be…"

Luke Wijnberg replied to Paddy Dangerfield's discussion Hydrographic surveying
"Hi Paddy.
Bodies of water do not do well with photogrammetry. There are no tie points on the surface of water for the model to photogrammetrically render itself. Try a test over a pool of water and you will find Mount Everest suddenly appears!

Luke Wijnberg commented on Luke Wijnberg's blog post Emlid Reach for placing GCP
"Hi @kiki boy . You are quite right that Reach is capable of recording data up to those speeds. For a moving rover, this would be well suited as we need as many measurements to accurately plot the rover position in a time span. But for static…"

Luke Wijnberg commented on Luke Wijnberg's blog post Aerial Survey in Uganda
"@IronDOME, the reference regarding surveyors in Uganda is specifically targeted those in the Fort Portal region that struggled without reliable internet / electricity. Of course graduates from Kampala would have encountered GPS in their training,…"

Luke Wijnberg commented on Luke Wijnberg's blog post Emlid Reach for placing GCP
"What you have is great, Walter and we can wait to see how you integrate it further in to faster moving vehicles. Well done.
But the point is to show that for under $600, you can georeference to survey standards using a really simple and cheap tool."

Luke Wijnberg commented on Luke Wijnberg's blog post Emlid Reach for placing GCP
"Darius Jack, while it is very hard to was what the ping was during the survey, we can estimate that it was in the region of 400-450ms. Our exchange is very antiquated, over populated and 4.5km away on a dodgy copper wire.
Gary, no gazebo this time.…"

Luke Wijnberg commented on Luke Wijnberg's blog post Emlid Reach for placing GCP
"Pascal P., if only OPUS or Centerpoint RTX could use single frequency data. But I dont think it is possible to calculate on such long baselines.
So if you do not tie into an established geodetic control system, locally, your measurements will be in…"

Luke Wijnberg posted a blog post
We have been using the L1 only Reach GPS from EMLID for about 2 months. We were first attracted to the fact that it claimed that it was going to be integrated to Pixhawk and would then, via a system of magic, give us centimeter accurate geotagged…

Luke Wijnberg replied to Jose Alberto Soler's discussion Getting Params slow
"We had problems to with new RFD900 radios and slow syncing. Was driving us crazy and we thought we would just ave to live with it. But then, out of sheer desperation, I attempted to set the radios to default in Mission Planner. It worked…"

Luke Wijnberg commented on Luke Wijnberg's blog post Aerial Survey in Uganda
"Cedric, what a small world! Thank you for the kind words.
Now that I look back at this project, I realize how naive I was regarding low altitude photogrammetry. Amazing what experience teaches you and is no substitute for theoretical training."

Luke Wijnberg replied to Quan Le's discussion Drone topographical survey for agriculture in Africa - What have we done wrong? Business opportunity in Agricultural UAVs
"Hi Quan

From what I see, the terrain is very undulating. This will seriously impact the set overlaps and side laps that you set relative to your design or home location. This seems to have reduced the over and sidelaps significantly, resulting in a…"

"Good luck guys, it really looks promising and I wish you all the best with further development. It will be interesting to see what you come up with. Perhaps this is the future for more industrial, working RPAS."
