APM2 Option Pins

I hope that I haven't overlooked something in the wiki, but I haven't been able to find much info on the optional sensor pins on APM2, in particular A4-A9. I had some LED strips I wanted to mount,…Continue

ESC's Refusing to Arm

Okay guys, another noob here with ESC issues. Assembled Arducopter kit from jDrones, and everything appeared to be working well hardware-wise. ESC calibration process appeared to work, at first. I…Continue

ESC's Not Retaining Calibration

I am having difficulties with ESC calibration on my 3DR quad. The calibration seems to go okay, with all motors starting in unison and accelerating proportional to throttle settings. The trouble begins when I cycle the power on the APM2 board, the calibration seems to be "forgotten" and the motors spool up to about 75% of total power with only a slight advance on the throttle.I am running the 30 amp jDrones ESC's with the 880 kv motors, and have double and triple-checked all the leads and…See More

ESC Gone Bad?

After many successful flights (congrats, 3DR team!) of my APM2 quad, a problem suddenly cropped up and my quad is grounded. When I hook up the lipo and the APM2 is finished its boot sequence, one of the propellers begins to "twitch", and emit low volume beeps. To make matters worse, this same prop sometimes will spin up on its own, before the ESC's are even armed.I have uploaded new firmware, re-calibrated the ESC's and done all of the setup sequences over and over, ad nauseum. Is this a simple…See More

Dirt Cheap Night Lighting Option

Posted on September 27, 2011 at 6:00pm 2 Comments

Although LED strip lighting looks more spectacular, I couldn't help but notice these little lights the other day when I was nosing my way through the aisles at Home Depot. They are called Dot-Its, by Sylvania. They are meant to be decorative note-holders, lit with SMT LED's and powered by a lithium disk cell.

These lights are really quite bright, and you can select a steady or blinking mode. They have an adhesive backing, but they also have strong magnets in…

New 3DR Quad Completed!

Posted on September 26, 2011 at 7:25pm 7 Comments

My 3DR quad frame is finished, and I mounted the 880 kV motors and 12" props. This thing is a BEAST! It takes off like a rocket, although the flight times are rather short. All in all, I love the frame build. Thanks, Jeff, for helping me out with the bolt issue.
