New MP Event

I'm to figure out if it is possible to make battery charge a condition of a mission.I'm wanting to build an automated docking / charging station that allows a UAV to repeat a mission indefinitely.Process would be...Auto TakeoffFly MissionLand on charging stationWait for battery to reach X chargeAuto TakeoffRepeatFrom what I can figure out, this is not currently possible in Mission Planner as it would need a new event / wait state dependant on the current battery charge.Am I missing something…See More

"I think drone delivery won't be fully viable until battery technology undergoes a revolution. Also, I think drone delivery is going to play out a lot different to what people think. At the moment everyone is focused on delivery from a…"

"Actually. Thinking about this more. What would really help is if you could buy a hobby version of every future 3dr product. I think that would go a long way to appeasing the original support base. For example if I could buy a box of parts to build…"

Toby Mills commented on Chris Anderson's blog post 3DR's evolution from micro to mass
"3dr faces a real challenge with this transition from a DIY hoobyist focus to a consumer RTF focus. How do you make that shift while keeping the people that helped get you there engaged and supportive? It's very easy to get it wrong and for…"

What would you suggest as a minimum system to get started with this 3G telemetry?

Thanks for posting your work !

All you need is a Fatbox and a TTL level converter.
Alternatively the dronecell is working, but that is fairly Alpha.

3dr Solo Review from a Long Time DIYer

Posted on October 12, 2015 at 5:26pm 19 Comments

I've been a long time DIY Droner right back to the APM 1, mainly on fixed wing platforms but more recently quad-copters.

There is surprisingly little info and discussion on DIY Drones about the 3dr Solo, despite the fact that it is ripe for hacking and modding.

The Solo…

Sense and Avoid Explained

Posted on August 10, 2014 at 2:00pm 10 Comments

With the recent addition of ADSB support in Mission Planner and the discussion about feeding data from a drone into a 'national feed' there has been much excitement about the possibilities in the future.

This video is a great explanation about the challenges we face with sense and avoid using existing technology and then also goes into…

Cutting the Red Tape

There has been a lot of discussion recently over the FAA's approach to airspace integration.

A lot of people see the FAA as the enemy rather than as a partner.

I thought I would take the opportunity to share how the same problem that the USA is facing is being dealt with in New Zealand with far less angst, far more co-operation between parties and a better outcome…

3DR X8 RTF Unboxing / Test

Posted on April 25, 2014 at 3:00pm 12 Comments

A lot of people have bought the RTF 3DR Iris as there is a plethora of info out there on both performance and modifications.

The X8 is the heavy lifting RTF option and is a little less common.

I've been an Arduplane fan for about 3 years now, starting with the APM 1 in a Skyfun and working my way up to an APM 2.6 in a Skywalker X8 complete with Cellular…
