About Me:

I am a software engineer and mixed media artist. At the moment I am employed by SONOS as a member of the DSP team. Prior experience includes video games (Harmonix) and desktop music production (Cakewalk). I am a frequent contributor to the underground art community in Boston as a VJ, musician and designer of hardware for audio/visual art projects.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

My goals with UAVs are to create an aerial video platform and to have the opportunity to get involved in software development for control of dynamic systems and robotics.

Aurelio R. Ramos commented on Stefan Gofferje's blog post Possible critical error due to a design problem with the 3DR power module
"I wonder if the context where any failures could happen (if in fact they are possible...?) is unplugging a battery *while current is drawn*, that is, while the motors are running. In this case there would be an inductive voltage spike, which the…"

Aurelio R. Ramos commented on Jiro Hattori's blog post EMC Shielding for ArduCopter3.0
"So copper tape would help with EMI that might affect the GPS or sonar wiring, but this will actually block static magnetic fields, got it. As far as the earth's magnetic field, while this will have some blocking effect, I based on application it…"

Aurelio R. Ramos commented on Jiro Hattori's blog post EMC Shielding for ArduCopter3.0
"how does this compare to, say, copper tape connected to ground?"

Aurelio R. Ramos commented on Richard Evans's blog post Hot in Texas
"Looking good! Yes, you are going to have to use the MinimOSD configuration tool to remove display elements that aren't actually used, like the RSSI, you should also tie unused inputs as Earl said. MinimOSD can also be used with planes, so I suppose…"

Aurelio R. Ramos commented on Glenn Anderson's blog post How to succeed without really trying
"Hmm, I think that your frame should teach us all the following lesson: Vibration control is everything. And because your frame is not super rigid (and has, apparently, a very high damping coefficient) it soaks up all the vibrations when compared to…"

Aurelio R. Ramos replied to Nicolò Lazzaro's discussion Repair brushless motor?
"If I were you I would try to fix it. But motors are cheap enough that having a replacement handy never hurts.

Your motor will probably need new bearings. If the motor makes a rumbly type of sound when spun by hand your bearings are not that great…"

Aurelio R. Ramos replied to Vikrant's discussion loiter debug - gains altitude rapidly when engaging loiter/alt hold in ArduCopter User Group
"I wanted to express interest in this, since I have also struggled with getting smooth altitude hold with 2.9.1b (which is the actual problem here, not the position hold part of loiter).

Randy had said in an earlier post that tuning the acceleration…"

Aurelio R. Ramos commented on Balloon's blog post Test Sonar wiring Shield Perfect No Noise
"Old conversation I know, Twisted pairs would help a little with the power line, but not so much with the signal line. You would be better off with a shielded cable salvaged from a broken usb hub or microphone cable, etc.
I just solved my last…"

Aurelio R. Ramos commented on Arthur Benemann's blog post [Update] DroidPlanner - Ground Control Station for Android devices
"I wonder if it would be possible to simply support a direct serial device over a OTG USB connector so that I can plug the FTDI enabled XBEE I already use with my windows 7 PC? Forgive me if this is something that has already been covered. Thanks for…"

Aurelio R. Ramos replied to Anant Rao's discussion Quad rotor drift
"A little drift is almost impossible to avoid. A small breeze, turbulence from something nearby is all it takes for it to begin to drift. About the only way to prevent this drift is with extra hardware like the optical flow sensor as far as I know.…"

Aurelio R. Ramos commented on Jani Hirvinen's blog post ArduCopter GoPro Mount, 2-Axis from ArduCopter factory @ jDrones
"Wow, I have been designing exactly this same mount in the last couple of days. A basic 2 axis mount for the go pro that holds the camera with an elastic. During my design I came to the hypothesis that a 2 axis mount like this would give inherently…"

Aurelio R. Ramos replied to Andrew Laird's discussion Battery voltage rises during flight
"If the power supply to your board is *dropping* while the battery voltage is holding steady (or dropping at a lower rate) then your voltage reading will seem to go up. Make sure your bec gives a rock steady input to your board."

Aurelio R. Ramos replied to Duran - ALTI's discussion GPS Loiter, why why why
"I think the problem is ultimately related to the magnetometer, or the way it is calibrated, etc. Can you check how well your magnetometer works?"

Aurelio R. Ramos replied to Aurelio R. Ramos's discussion Multi rotors, the altitude yoyo effect, and how to deal with it
"To anybody following this discussion, I have started work on an improved version of this algorithm. Namely, instead of leaking the velocity away, the velocity drift is controlled by fusing the low frequency component of sonar derived velocity…"

Aurelio R. Ramos commented on AndrewF's blog post Arducopter Tethered Tests
"Oh, another type of test is to "crawl" the quad on the floor. Use the pitch / roll and yaw controls to get the quad to slide on the ground (without actually taking off). You just have to watch the throttle and keep it low and steady. If your radio…"
