Bill English replied to Scott B Hunt's discussion Solo drone and Mission Planner in 3DR SOLO
"Erik

Thanks, yes, good info.

Cobbled together is an understatement - but boy did I learn a lot about drones.  (To be clear, the Xbox controller is for the Payload Operator, I also have a regular FrSky for flight control.)  So, you're right, this…"

Bill English replied to Scott B Hunt's discussion Solo drone and Mission Planner in 3DR SOLO
"Thanks Scott, that's kind of what I'm seeing.  I understand why they might have made it hard to fly missions, and I don't mind a little bit of work, but I'd like something pretty much out-of-the-box for my next bird.  I could do everything I want…"

Bill English replied to Scott B Hunt's discussion Solo drone and Mission Planner in 3DR SOLO
"Thanks Erik, I'll check out your set up.
I do prefer a dual set up also.  I currently have an old Quad, and have it set up well to do all the things I like, but I would like a more modern bird with better endurance.
I have tried Tower using the…"

Bill English replied to Dan Murray's discussion First impressions in 3DR SOLO
"@ Dan

I am not saying this is what happened to your bird, but you (all) need to understand some things about GPS.  The reason not to fly near buildings is not so much HDOP, but multipath.

HDOP (horizontal dilution of precision) is a measure of the…"

Bill English replied to Peter Everett's discussion APM Mini Fly Away - maiden flight.. :o(
"Well, I plotted the home point and it looks pretty close to where you started.  Your arming check does look enabled, with HDOP of 2.0, which is good.  But if you look on your kmz file, the position is wandering all over so it may have been having…"

Bill English replied to Peter Everett's discussion APM Mini Fly Away - maiden flight.. :o(
"HDOP is a measure of how well your GPS is measuring horizontal position.  Normally, AC won't even let you arm with HDOP above 2.0, yours was over 4.0
So, you may have the pre-arm check disabled.
Are you using Mission Planner?  You can see the HDOP…"

Bill English replied to Rodney Johnson's discussion Question for the Developers "" Can Pixhawk save and Fly GPS trail instead of GPS waypoints??
"Why not just edit it in the FP after upload?
This is just a way to do it now. But I am just curious as to what you are really trying to do, why aren't waypoints in the flight planner sufficient?  Are you doing something with a DGPS?

p.s. - I am…"

Bill English replied to Rodney Johnson's discussion Question for the Developers "" Can Pixhawk save and Fly GPS trail instead of GPS waypoints??
"Download your dataflash log, then in Mission Planner - > dataflash logs -> create kml + gpx
Paste the lat/longs into a WP file and upload it."

Bill English replied to Andrew P.'s discussion Mission planner - white faded areas/overlay all over the map (v1.3.15 build 1.15442.12660)
"The new TFR feature is certainly useful, but could maybe use a tweak?
The outer ring of the large area around DC is the SFRA, which is not a prohibition per se, whereas the inner ring does specifically by regulation prohibit RC flight. One of the…"

Bill English commented on Chris Anderson's blog post WSJ scoop on forthcoming FAA rules -- pilots license will be required for commercial use unless Congress intervenes
"@GaryM
They did that a long time ago:

As well as not being UAPO.  It's UASIO, AFS-80.

On the bright side, there's lots of drone activity in Somalia....   ;-)"
