Rupert Kent replied to Rupert Kent's discussion What am I doing wrong...?
"Hi chaps,

Thanks for the replies. You were quite right - I wasn't arming it properly. It's now fine and ready to be set up...! Wise advice Martin to test sans props..."

Hi all, I've been flying a Skyfun with Arduplane on for about 18 months now and have enjoyed it immensely. Around this time last year I pre-ordered the ArduCopter kit. The kit duly came from the supplier (Fah-Pah as it was back then) and I simply…

Rupert Kent replied to Rupert Kent's discussion Skyfun lost roll channel
"Here's the culprit. A wire has failed on the back of the right-hand gimbal in my Sanwa/Airtronics RDS8000 Tx. I'll put a general warning up on this elsewhere on the forum. Here's a photo with the offending wire highlighted.

Rupert Kent replied to Rupert Kent's discussion Skyfun lost roll channel
"Could it be a failure in the APM board itself I wonder...? It hasn't been used in a few monts but it was fine when I put it away. I should have tested it before loading the new f/ware I guess..."

Rupert Kent replied to Rupert Kent's discussion Skyfun lost roll channel
"OK, so I just reinstalled the firmware (clicked the APM plane logo) and it installed OK. I then did a reset and went to calibrate the radio. Same deal. If I disconnect either ch1 or ch2 from the Rx, the a/c goes into (presumably) a failsafe / RTL…"

Hello all, Due to one thing or another it's been a while since I looked at my Skyfun based UAV. Today, I fired it up and installed the latest APM software (2.24) via Planner v1.0.79. The installation went great but I seem to have lost all roll…

Rupert Kent replied to Dean's discussion Why does RTL cut throttle to zero?
"Hi Chris,
I really need to sit down and methodically record the steps that I make. I am a software tester by profession, as such this sort of thing comes naturally, but I just don't have the time to spend on the APM that I would like. Maybe a…"

Rupert Kent replied to Dean's discussion Why does RTL cut throttle to zero?
"I have had this same problem numerous times. The only thing I can pin it down to it sometimes the mission planner screws things up. Generally, no amount of resetting / factory config will sort it. Re-programming the firmware to the device via…"

Rupert Kent commented on T.D. Gonzales's blog post First attempt at LiPo charging--disaster
"I am appalled at the so-called hobby store that sold you this. Any hobby store employee worth their salt should know full well the danger of charging LiPo batteries with the wrong charger (or even the right charger with the wrong settings). Had you…"

Rupert Kent replied to Thomas J Coyle III's discussion The Raven Drone
"Apologies as I might be way out here but has anyone thought of reinforcing "prone" areas of the airframe with 3M fibreglass-weave "bullet" tape...? It's perfect for protecting foam such as wingtips etc, cheap to buy and easy to apply. I have used…"

Hi all, As I experiment a little more with APM in my Skyfun, I wonder if there's a suite of attributes we could use to compare airframes and get a good idea of where one airframe performs better over another. Just for starters, example attributes…

Rupert Kent replied to Mark Grennan's discussion Pre-flight Checklist
"As a daily pre-flight, this is good. My suggestions as follows:

For the radio checks, perhaps add a failsafe check (where configured).

I would perhaps add some further checks to the airframe such as :

R/C equipment correctly located and fixed…"

Rupert Kent replied to Rupert Kent's discussion Pitch and Roll limiters not working...?
"I was in stabilize, but in this mode, I have always had limiters. Perhaps the defect was that the limiters used to be available in this mode but it's now fixed and they aren't...!
Thanks for the reply - I'll used one of the FBW modes from now on.…"
